“As the son of an Architect and a Museum Curator it is natural that design, art, culture and communication would be become Julian’s passion.”
With over 15 years experience in Graphic Design Julian has have had the privilege to work with a wide variety of people and partners. In this time he has refined his skills as a talented communicator.
Julian’s primary goal in all design is to enable better visual communication through refined design applications.
Julian has been creating/designing/making/experimenting all of his life. With a keen interest in fine arts and history Julian obtained a Honours Degree in Art History at Queen’s University. While on summer leave from Queen’s Julian had the opportunity to work in the promotions department of a large Toronto architectural studio.
It was during this time in promotions that he discovered a true passion for Graphic Design. Upon graduating from Queen’s Julian was immediately accepted into the highly competitive Graphic Design program at York University/ Sheridan College. With his previous academic and practical experience Julian excelled in the program and graduated a year early.
After graduation Julian started working in the marketing department of Canlan Ice Sports (a large North American owner/operator of recreational facilities). During the course of 10 years with Canlan Julian rose from Junior Designer to Creative Director responsible for all marketing and advertising, managing an amazing team of talented people.
During his time with Canlan, Julian adapted his skill set from a purely print-based designer to multi-talented threat, comfortable working in both a digital and analog world. Julian has extensive brand and marketing experience working with some of North America’s largest companies including Coca Cola, Molson-Coors and the NHL.
After 10 years working with amazing people and building a war chest of skills Julian knew it was time for a new challenge! So with that Julian set out to start his own design business, Julian Irwin Design. In two years since starting his business Julian has experienced fantastic growth through great partnerships such as working with VPDM.
Being a graphic designer offers Julian the opportunity to work with a vast array of interesting people and ideas. As a visual communicator, Julian feels it’s his role to help others bridge the divide between what they are saying and what their audience is interpreting. It is through these visual communication challenges that he finds the greatest reward.
Julian shares his home with his beautiful wife, who is a very accomplished leader in the healthcare world. They have three energetic and intelligent children that keep them their toes but most of all make them laugh. As the son of an Architect and a Museum Curator it is natural that design, art, culture and communication would be become Julian’s passion.
